This is a completely rust free car that has been stored indoors for the last 15 plus years. The body has already been professionally worked and has been sealed. That work was performed by the best automotive restoration shop in SW Washington. The engine and the transmission have already been rebuilt. The engine is a stock 230 HP 302 cu in that functions perfectly with the factory optioned stock Holley 4 barrel. This was the first year the 302 engine option was ever offered in the Cougar. The transmission is a floor shifted 3 speed automatic. Following a long rest he engine was recently started and ran for 15 to 20 minutes and it performed flawlessly. Afterward it didn't leak one drop of antifreeze, oil or transmission fluid. The inside of the valve covers are very clean as expected. I have had this car on the lift and have inspected it thoroughly. There isn't any rust to be found anywhere on the car including every floor pan and the trunk deck. It has the original bucket seats, console and padded dash all in good shape. No vinyl top...ever - therefore no rust problems.
The car comes with new weatherstripping, front and rear window seals and some new body trim pieces. All engine components are present and function as expected. The radiator is in perfect condition. The exhaust dual system is in great condition. Door panels are in great condition. It has tinted glass. The interior and exterior components are in the trunk. Steering is tight.
Because the pre-paint body work has been finished and the engine and transmission already rebuilt, the expensive major costs have been completed. If this car is finished properly it should be worth $20,000 plus.
The '67 Cougar was Motor Trend Magazine's "Car of the Year" and the '68 was an improved model.
Cougar was Mercury's Pony Car. It was marketed as a luxury car (which it is) as not to compete with the Mustang which was marketed as a sports car.
West Coast Classic Cougar located in Salem and is an excellent local source for reproduction parts and information.
The car is located near the Clark County Fairgrounds - Exit 9 off I-5 north of Vancouver, WA. I am retired and home most everyday.
